The focus of Chilean venture capital for 2023

The projections for 2023 for the local venture capital industry are good, agree several experts and partners of the ACVC in a note on the subject published by La Tercera. While the global trend has been a decrease in investments, in Latin America, and particularly in Chile, the phenomenon has been the opposite.

Among the experts consulted were Francisco Guzmán, president of ACVC, Federico Iriberry of Broota, Claudio Barahona of Alaya Capital, Andrés Meirovich of Genesis Ventures and Sebastián Acevedo of ChileGlobal Ventures.

"For early stage financing (seed capital or series A, which is what predominates in Chile), investments have not decreased and I would bet that the amounts will remain the same or even increase," said Francisco Guzmán.

Proof of this is that, according to ACVC figures, in the first half of this year, investment in Chilean startups grew 34% compared to the same period last year.

Investments will not stop, but the form and focus of investments will change. Startups will have to adapt to what funds are looking for, such as the ability to demonstrate short-term profitability, among others.
