Venture capital in Chile has grown 34% so far this year

During the first half of the year, venture capital in Chile grew 34% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The trend, reflected by data collected by the ACVC, goes against what is happening in the world and this is due to the fact that the Chilean market is still at an early stage, Francisco Guzmán, president of the ACVC, explained to El Mercurio's Innovación Francisco Guzmán.

During the first six months of 2022, local investment reached US$ 550 million versus the US$ 411 million invested during the first half of 2021. The average ticket went from US$ 500 thousand to US$ 4.1 million.

"This year we observed a drop in late stage venture capital, while our country, by definition, is an earlier stage industry, which is reflected in a lower average ticket compared to consolidated markets," said Francisco Guzmán.

Despite economic risks and uncertainties, the local trend should continue, he added. "Without denying the economic problems ahead, there are still indicators that show that venture capital in Chile will continue to grow and will do so even more than other industries or assets in the economy, as new players continue to enter."
