Venture Capital and sustainable development

ACVC was part of the event "Venture Capital and Sustainable Development", organized by CAF - Development Bank of Latin America, which sought to focus on the importance and challenges of the industry.

Magdalena Guzmán, executive director of the ACVC, was in charge of moderating the panel "Opportunities, challenges and challenges of the venture capital industry, from the point of view of managers and entrepreneurs", with the participation of Víctor Aguilera, Managing Partner of Aurus; Kike Rebolledo, co-founder and CEO of Spora Biotech; Constanza Levicán, founder and CEO of Suncast;
Daniel Daccarett, co-founder of Emprende Tu Mente; and Kathleen Barclay, President and Advisory Council of Endeavor.

One of the topics discussed in the panel was the gaps in the ecosystem. For Victor Aguilera, one of them is the knowledge about venture capital itself. The vision of how the whole financing cycle works or that startups understand that competition is global are vital points to move forward, he said.

Kathleen Barclay focused on the need for more advanced entrepreneurs. That is, they should know how to develop a business plan and an organization, or even have more tools to know how to choose their partners, she explained. To achieve this, she continued, the ecosystem needs to have more experienced mentors.

In this, networks and contacts are fundamental, but also to be able to extend the impact of VC everywhere. To this end, Daniel Daccarett emphasized the need to reach all regions. "But what is also missing are the companies (their commitment) .... entrepreneurs have to sell to them," he said.

A little later, in the panel "Contributions of the actors of the entrepreneurial capital ecosystem to take it to the next level", Jorge Velarde, CAF's Director of Funds and Impact Investments, followed in the same line.

"Developing the market is a challenge and we must not only look at a moment in the venture capital cycle, such as the investment decision for example, but also analyze where it is failing... and review what instruments or vehicles are required to strengthen and incentivize the ecosystem," he said.
